Board Game Cafe

Children at Heart

12:18

Being a busy couple that lives right outside the city of Toronto, we take advantage of every opportunity we have to go downtown Toronto for a day trip.

Yesterday, March 23, 2014, we spent a day in the city for our first date in a long time. We both dressed up a lot nicer than we usually do (no sweat pants or t-shirts, haha) and had a few new experiences crossed off our bucketlist.

Around 1:30pm we took the train headed down to Union Station. When we arrived, we grabbed lunch at McDonalds then headed on our way to Roll Play Cafe to kill a couple hours before our show. It was our first time here and despite how sketchy we thought it would be, we absolutely enjoyed our visit (a review will be up soon!). Basically, Roll Play Cafe is a board game cafe where you can play games from their variety of board games or cards while enjoying a bite to eat. It was so much fun. At the end of our visit, they also gave us a pair of dice with the cafe logo on it. Absolutely brilliant!

After spending a couple hours playing games, we started to walk back towards the Sony Centre of Performing Arts where we were seeing Disney Live: Mickey's Rockin' Road Show. On our walk, we had a funny experience. A man promoting Black History Month beyond February stopped us and asked Adam to shake his hand. He asked us for a donation because his group is trying to gain funding to create a Black History magazine. He looked us and said "I know you two are in love! I see her holding your arm like that". He continued to ramble on about the flyer he handed us and I offered to give a donation because Adam didn't have physical cash on him. So the man was like "The wife is pulling through!" As we gave the donation and greeted him goodbye, Adam and I laughed at the fact that he thought Adam and I were married! To most people we do not look much older than 17 years old, so it made us giggle a little that this man thought we were married! If you want to check his blog out and see what they do, the link is [here].

When we arrived at the Sony Centre of Performing Arts, we claimed our tickets that my (Jenn's) mother purchased for us for my birthday. There were a lot of kids and at first we felt really awkward being surrounded by kids and their parents. Our seats were pretty good, though. We sat fairly close to the front. As the show progressed, we became more and more comfortable. It made us laugh a lot and despite how "childish" many people will try to say this show was, everyone is a kid at heart and watching this really brought out the kid in us. We walked in with low expectations and came out absolutely loving every second of it! Totally worth seeing and $62 per ticket is totally worth it (A review for this will be up soon, as well).

After the show, we headed back to Union Station and took the train back to Ajax where we decided to have dinner. We had dinner at Odine Japanese and Thai Fusion (A review for this place is on the way, as well), which is a sushi place we visit often when we aren't hungry enough for AYCE (all you can eat).

Overall, it was an amazing day to spend together. We had so much fun and ended up coming home exhausted. This day really brought our the kids in us as we played games at Roll Play Cafe from our childhood & also learned a few new ones and watched Disney Live! Such a well deserved break from the every day life.
