You begin the game by choosing your starter pokemon (this is a feature of Pixelmon, but we felt it was necessary to add into our review so you know you do in fact have a starter pokemon). 

After reading the introduction, instruction, rules and customizable settings, you spawn in your bedroom inside your house. Unfortunately, Mom isn't home, like she usually is in the game. 

Here is Professor Oaks. He gives you a Pokedex, a few Pokeballs, and three Orbs 

As you make your way through town to town, you may be forced into battle by wild pokemon. Battling other pokemon follows the same format as it does in the game. At lower levels, your pokemon usually start with two fighting abilities. As your pokemon levels up, it learns new fighting abilities. Once you have four and begin to learn new abilities leveling up, you will be asked to switch the new ability with an old ability to be able to use it. You are also able to carry pokeballs in your bag, switch out pokemon during battle, and use potions and antidote during battle. (This is also a feature of Pixelmon Mod, but it also seemed necessary for the review). 

There is a pokecenter where you can heal your pokemon and use the computer. There is also a PokeMart where you can sell items you pick-up throughout your journey for money to buy more pokeballs, potions, and antidotes. 

There are also gyms which you are able to fight gym leaders. After you defeat a Gym leader, they give you a Badge to keep.
