Just because you are dating, and have been for a long time, does not mean you stop dating and doing cheesy things for each other, to keep the relationship alive.
Valentine's day is seen to be both a commercial holiday as well as a day of love. But because of this, many people, who have been in relationships for a long time forget that showing someone how much you love them is not only buying them flowers and chocolates and expensive gifts; but instead why not ask them to be your Valentine still? It keeps the relationship playful and alive.
Yesterday, we went to Tim Horton's on our university/college campus, bought two Valentine's day donuts and when we got back to our study table, asked each other to be our Valentine. Despite us already knowing that since we are a couple, we are spending Valentine's day together, it is always a cute playful gesture. We literally were sitting there, smiling from ear to ear, laughing at the cheesiness.
And even on Valentine's day, don't take the easy road by just buying chocolate and calling it quits. This is your time to have a special night together--especially with how busy lives can get. Even if you're working on Valentine's day, set a specific date out, where you will spend a day together, just the two of you. Whether you are going out on a date, staying in and making dinner and watching a movie; it is always nice to push aside the business of your lives for one special night with your significant other.
BONUS: Keep in mind, you don't only have to do this on Valentine's day. Put aside one day a week, or one day every two weeks where you have a special night just for the two of you--no work, no school work, no stress, no problems: just the two of you living in the moment and celebrating your love.
This is a great way to strengthen a relationship and keep the relationship playful and fun.
